Who Was Meghan Markle’s Wedding Dress Designed By?
Prior to the wedding, there was much speculation about who would design the dress. Every beauty publication and newspaper was guessing who could be the lucky designer. Most predicted that London-based Ralph and Russo would have the opportunity to create the Meghan Markle Wedding Dress. The fashion house designed Meghan’s black and gold dress from the couple’s engagement shoot.
But, the honour went to Clare Waight Keller, artistic director of Givenchy. Kensington Palace said that Wight Keller was chosen because of her “timeless and elegant aesthetic, impeccable tailoring, and relaxed demeanour.” Meghan, now formally The Duchess of Sussex, graced the aisle with a pure white dress made from silk, with three-quarter length sleeves and an open neckline. This modest dress was ideal for a Royal wedding and Prince Harry was as blown away by the dress as we were. As he met his bride at the altar, expert lip readers revealed that he said: “You look amazing.” We agree, Harry!
While the dress fitted Meghan beautifully, there were two accessories which accompanied the dress perfectly. The first of which was a five-metre long veil. On the edge of the veil were floral details representing every country in the commonwealth. This is very symbolic of the work that both Meghan and Harry will do as a married couple.
As well as the veil, no Royal wedding is complete without a tiara. The Queen loaned the Duchess of Sussex a diamond-studded tiara which belonged to Queen Mary. The broach on the tiara dates back to 1893, while the tiara itself dates back to 1932.
But, the wedding dress wasn’t the end of Meghan’s marvellous wedding attire. Following on from The Duchess of Cambridge, Meghan had a dress change for the evening festivities. Her evening gown was another pure white dress but slightly more revealing, with bare arms and shoulders. Yet, as a full-length gown with halter neckline, Meghan kept her elegant style. This dress was designed by Stella McCartney and gave a more modern style to the bride.
